We go through this crap all the time with him but we finally fixed it by telling him if he thought so strongly about it then he should come into work on Christmas day if he did not choose to honor the Holiday.

The dem's will proceed more in this direction with control of both the house and senate.

I can't wait to see my paycheck get smaller, another ten thousand tort lawyers and final kicker national: Lets all hold hands and burn a fat one day.

I AM an atheist, no BS...

And I have no problem with Merry Christmas, or Nativity scenes, or anything religious, or saying one nation under God during the pledge of allegiance, etc. As long as it's not hurting me, I say do whatever makes people happy. I applaud WalMart for doing this, simply because they're not bowing to the PC extortion that seems to run amok these days.

We are one Nation Under GOD. Don't like it? Dont pray or get the hell out.

Getting punched in the mouth for burning the flag is a reasonable expectation ... getting arrested for it would not be, any more than getting arrested for saying "Merry Christmas".

"The dem's will proceed more in this direction with control of both the house and senate."

Are you nuts? The Dems are the ones who try to make everyone happy by bending over for them and if someone doesn't agree, they get bent over. The dirtbag lawyers who'll sue just to get their name in the news and make a pile of money even though the suit is BS, the ambulance chasers who want to "right those who have been wronged", etc are the ones who caused all of this crap. The "poor little people who don't follow the predominant holiday and are offended by hearing the holiday greetings but don't ask them to give up the days off" need to get over themselves. Majority Rules! Even spelling Holy Days 'holidays' is either ignorance or trying to not offend someone, I'm not sure.

I don't even go to church regularly and this pizzes me off.

To the people who don't like seeing someone else's holidays, I say "Your intolerance is intolerable!".

OTOH, starting the Salvation Army Christmas donation buckets just after Halloween is a bit ridiculous. The decorations sales have already started and the carols won't be far behind. I think that going back to starting the holiday season right after Thanksgiving should be returned.

MKE is gettin' a Christmas Tree, baby!

I just got this email and I sort of goes along with this thread... a little bit of patriotism!!

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Forward this to as many as you know, spread the word for the good of our country!

Not that it changes anything apart from the date, but I think that is an excerpt from a letter (http://67.19.222.106/politics/graphics/troosevelt.pdf) TR wrote in 1919 shortly before his death.

Unfortunately, we've become a country characterized by Tyranny of the Minority. Numbers don't matter, only the ability to get a pulpit (the liberal media) from which to yell. It you want a great read on this exact topic pick up a copy of Bernie Goldberg's book 'Bias'.

I have no desire to do either of those things, but it pisses me off that people think they should decide for me whether I can or not. Is this a free country or what?

I know that I should applaud Wal-Mart for their dedication to putting back the reason for the season... I just have trouble applauding them for little more than that. Their business practices, though very lucrative and efficient are also slightly corrupt and create a situation which causes the average working man to be under valued. All my business classes praised them for their ability to turn enourmous profits, but looking back, that is only half the story. I also think that the business school I attended praised them because the family was a big contributor to the school and a few of the heirs to the Walmart fortune attended the school. One heir, paid her roommate $40k over 3 years to do her homework, which led to the heir's expulsion!!

Original pledge was written in 1892, by a socialist :) Phrase under GOD was added approximately 1954.

What seems to escape too many people was our country being founded by people wanting the freedom to practice religion, not a specific mandated religion.

There's a reason the first amendment is the freedom to practice religion.

Totally agree. Which is why a company like WalMart has the right to say Merry Christmas if it wants to, or Happy Hanukah or whatever without being picketed, protested or extorted. The problem in this country remains this environment where we are held hostage to the tyranny of the minority. In an environment like the one we've allowed to be created in the US, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. No matter what you do, someone will feel slighted. The problem is we've let those people with hurt feelings dictate how everyone else should live. As far as I'm concerned, everyone should do/say whatever they want and, as long as they're not hurting anyone else, everyone else should just stfu. If you don't like something just ignore it and move on.

I'd like to put every flag burning ahole on a slow boat to Haiti, but I realize that would be destroying the very thing the flag stands for, freedom of expression, regardless of how repulsive I might think it is. A free country means freedom for everyone, not just me.

Soapbox is free.

That's why Walmart should be able to make the decision to express "happy holidays" or "merry christmas" or "feel free to buy our slave labor products", LOL. We as customers can choose to shop there or not. I agree that small groups forcing their will on others is absolutely wrong.

I'm with you Arch. But picketing and protesting is also a freedom that everyone should be allowed to exercise. Actually, that kind of activity is probably what influenced Walmart to change it's policies.

Now extortion, on the other hand, is illegal and rightfully so.

They certainly have a right to say whatever they want, but if what they say is unpopular to any person or group, that person or group has a right to picket or protest by exactly the same token. So, I'd say they don't have a right to expect any such thing.

Some may term that extortion by the tyranny of the minority. Others may call it exercising 1st amendment rights.

Extortion is only effective if the extortee plays along.

Yeah, but what you're leaving out of the equation is the fact that the minute WalMart, or any group in this country for that matter, responds to that picketing with an 'FU we'll do what we want' then the race card comes out or the bigot card comes out, etc., etc., and what winds up occurring is essentially extortion. Understand that I'm not just talking about legality, I'm talking about just fundamentally having some respect for your fellow man. I mean, it's technically legal for me to stand in front of my local elementary school and shout obscenities all day long, but would I be contributing positively to society if I did so?
