Hi, love the Mastercrafts boats but need to know more about the models and history. Can you still buy a closed boat model? Is this information available anywhere?

You sure can. It's called the Prostar 190. www.mastercraft.com

So, it look like (from your profile) that you have a 1990 PS 190

There have been a few hull changes ... the 190 is the same hull as the 197, except for the open bow ... what part of the northwest are you in?

Thanks for the quick answers. The Mastercraft site says the Prostar is closed for 2007 production? Also, I found a an closed bow 1998 X5 which is a newer model than the Prostar but only found one. Was this only limited years of production?

The X5 is based off the 190 hull from 95-97, they added a tower to the boat and called it an X5. It was only built for 2 years.

the phrase "closed for business" is not meant to be taken that way, it is in reference to the closed bow ... you can order one:)

Thank you. Was it the exact same hull as the Prostar? It looks bigger to me...

I think he was asking about that x5 being the same as the prostar 190/195, and the answer is YES, it is the same boat with tower and ballast.

No X5 in 1998. Same basic boat (hull), but was called the Sportstar 19. Interior will be more basic than the 195/X5, which were introduced in 2000. Plus, there was no closed bow 195/X5. The owner may have updated the hull decals to the X5 version though.

Like Erk said, it's the same hull.

me personally think that a tournament ski boat should be closed bow. but, when i have a family, it will be 197 all the way. same hull as the 190 means same wake when bow not in use.

I think your right as the for sale is called a Sportstar which you don't see much. Do you know if the tower folds down? Thanks

Hi, are the ballast units reliable or do they break down and need lots of repair?

bjm, I think the conclusion that we are coming to here is that it's not really a factory X-boat. So any tower or ballast would have been added by the previous owner.
