Never been, have always wanted to go.. Decided to ask the wife to re-marry me (she did say yes) (kinda worried me with a momentary pause) call up some friends + wives and head down the first of the year... Not New Years night, but right afterwards... I know some fellow board members have gone.... Where can I get the best package deal (best price doesn't always equal best deal) I'd like to take her somewhere nice.. So the $10 budgetotel is out... anybody got some suggestions???

Just looked at an airfare and room package for 3 nts. from DFW @ The Bellagio for right at 1k. I've never been, but I dont think that is a great deal. Same for the Wynn Casino and Resort had a friend just get back and he proclaims it to be the cats pajama's!

take lots of money! i went to vegas last month for a bicycle show, and it wasn't all that. i mean, yeah, there is plenty to do and see....but my pockets don't run deep enough for that city. we stayed at the Venetian..which is one of the nicer places...you could go to that place and stay for a week....without ever leaving the front doors.

I did a search on www.lasvegas.com and found several packages much cheaper from NC @$300 (not that bad) per person... Of course the closest airport listed in this area is Raleigh, NC which is 4 hrs from here... No Charlotte???? I'd always heard casinos want you down there so bad that you can get really good package deals dirt cheap!!

I looked purely at the hotels packages. The wife called in to the local radio station a couple of months ago for a "free" trip to Vegas come to find out after paying 90.00 to hold the reservations that we were agreeing to a 3 hour presentation and we going to be paying for airfare. What a rip! We keep putting them off and they keep sweetening the pot. I'm holding out till they cover the airfare. I can say "no" for three hours as long as their not selling Mastercrafts:rolleyes:

I don't think they could pay me that much $$ to go to Iran. But Vegas is a cool town!

I must say I hate time share presentations.. Dad is so tight he squeaks when he walks... been to enough I could quote most of them... Except the ones that had the special kiddycare room. Went to one once.... they kept us there all day.. really, 5 hrs or so.... Mom was PI$$ED in a bad way!!! The guy just would't give them the free widget without a yes and dad wouldn't say yes or leave without the free widget!! My opinion is... its better to spend the extra $$$ than be hassled.... Just adds stress to what could be a good vacation...

And this is why neither one of us commit to anything without discussing it first. I know she was trying to surprise me with a "free" trip until she found out what was going on.

I hate that for her sake... sounds like they did her and everybody else who called a little dirty.. Ah it'll be ok if they'll ever give you the free flight.. and they probably will.. just go in telling the salesperson: I'm here for the freebie.. you're wasting your time.. If you want to make a sale give me the freebie, check your little book that I've been here or whatever you need to do, and go on to the next person....

Or just tell them your home or car was just repossessed!!!

We did one in Cancun to get some free stuff..... Suppose to be 1 hr ... After 2 hrs I had told the guy no about 5 times and he said " well what about this price?" I was fixin to go over the table - the wife dragged me out of there - the guy had the ba11s to say we weren't gonna get our stuff...... Normally I am pretty calm - but I about tossed a chair at the sales guys....needless to say 2 hours later I had had quite a few drinks - never again... I don't care how much free stuff the offer - it ain't worth it.....

Try hotels.com, priceline, expedia, etc. and see what you come up with. Have had several clients stay at the Stratosphere and brag about the deal they got. However, here it is all supply and demand: Rates go up when people want to be here and go through the roof when everybody wants to be here, way through the roof! As for time share presentations, or getting people into time share presentations, they are pretty low key here as long as you don't look them in the eye and keep on walking. And yes, Vegas is "all that".:D

i stayed at THEHOTEL ay MANDALAY BAY.....we booked it direct with the hotel......we kept watching the internet to see if the prices had changed...when they went lower we rang up the hotel and they gave us the same rate as advertised..this happened about 4 or 5 times..they honoured each drop......

great hotel

Thanks, we found some pretty good rates looking last night. Shooting for the 2nd thru the 5th of January. The week before was double, and rightfully so.. I haven't tried priceline, or hotels.com. Only Orbitz and expedia.. I also tried some of the hotel's direct websites like sizzler suggested. looks like @ 270/person at the stratosphere, and 352/person at the MGM... Montego Bay was @ 540/person.. (all those include airfare from Charlotte) Believe it or not it is cheaper to book 1 room for two people than it is to book 3 rooms for six people w/ airfare..... anyway, thanks for the inside info, let me know if you hear of any deals...

Just saw a Vegas commercial that had the lawn man extorting money out of the home owner.

Lawn man was asking for more money then usual for doing the lawn and said he just came back from Vegas and it makes you see things differently. Home owner agreed but said he usually only pays $30, and wanted to know why the bill was $75. Lawn man pointed out that his view in Vegas of the homeowner parting really changed his view. Home owner replied that $75 was a fair price and paid him.

Commercial was better then I told it, but in what way does being extorted for money because you partied too much in Vegas make you want to go to Las Vegas?

This was a pro Vegas commercial.

I don't know if you are going to be gambling much - but if you do get the "Club Card" - At MGM and their hotels it is called the "Players Club" and when we go we throw it out there on every hand - they can track your playing and if you play enough they will comp meals, rooms etc.

On the other hand - don't try to get complementary stuff - just pay for it.. The idea of playing for hours at $25 hands (and loosing $1000) doesn't add up - only to get a $100 meal .

Good luck and have fun!!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.. We're not big gamblers.. So we'll probably just set a token amount per day, just so we don't get carried away.. There was one casino advertising all day TX holdem for $22.00 entry, that sounds like fun. Depending on how many others are there.. wonder if that's a gimmick?? Went on a gamblig cruise to nowhere once.. spent twenty found twenty on the floor (not like you can stand up in a casino and say who's twenty?) won 175.00 got out, ate comp food and paid for the "cruise" $99 overnight for two out of Wilmington, NC.

Room rates vary wildly here depending on (surprise!) demand, the same room can be $129 on Thursday and $450 on Friday, just depends. Do you know where you want your vows renewed? You might see if you can get a package deal for that and a room.

Nah, haven't even thought of that.. I figured the little wedding chapels were scattered throughout LV at strategic locations.. Any ideas on the better ones, or are they all about the same? I could use the search engines to look that way if you have the names of some.. Thanks, BTW hows the weather down there at the beginning of the year?? and is there a co. that offers tows???

Yes, there are several wedding chapels sprinkled around and if you even sort of look like you might be in the market, I assure you they'll find you. Most of the hotels have various services as well, so if you have a couple of places that look promising you might give them a ring and see what they'll do. I don't personally have any experience with getting married in Vegas, so I'm just tossing ideas out here, really. :o

Weather should be pretty nice, even when we get "winter" storms they don't last more than a day or two. If you're going to be here over a weekend, we'd be happy to give you a pull, but the MC dealer here did have a kind of rental thing going, if you're looking to go out during the week. I don't know what they're doing now, but I'll be by there tomorrow night anyway, so I can ask if you'd like?

Well, a quick Google search turns up a lot of that sites claim there are "package deals" available, but it looks like you'll have to contact the hotels to find out what they are. I'd guess the deals vary depending on demand, just like everything else here. One thing I noticed, I assume you don't want to pay for another marriage license, so be sure to bring a copy of yours with you.

Funny you should mention that, when we first got married, the wife framed it and hung it on the wall in the living room... what do you say to her about that??? I just kinda hid it when we moved.. I hope I can find it...

I'm looking in to the different deals, there are almost too many out there.

Hey Monte

You will have an awesome time in Vegas. You mentioned interest in Texas Hold'em Poker - this is a good call - you can spend several hours playing low limits and not get hurt very badly. They also offer a number of small buy-in, small blind no-limit games, this is a great way to get your fill of gambling in without bankrupting yourself. If you are interested you will also be able to find several small hold'em tournaments going on (these are also great ways to take a shot at winning decent cash without much investment on your part, other than time, downside - you have to beat out a ton of people to get into "the money")
I have worked in the table games departement of a Casino in Canada for more than 10yrs now, (started as a dealer - currently a Casino Shift Manager). Advice - get a players card wherever you play - you never know how long you might end up playing for - also talk to the supervisors that rate your play - beleive me they deal with a lot of crap and appreciate someone that is just there to have a good time - you may find that they will increase your average bet,or time played - which substantially increases your comp worth. Also- don't buy in for several small amounts ( it is easily missed by the sup) buy in for one big amount, you do not ever need to put that money in play just pocket some of the chips and play what you want. Most of the Casino's that offer "shows" are very liberal when it comes comping tickets, again talk to the sups as you play you may be surprised! If you want some tips just pm me with your questions I will do what I can.
As for where to stay - talk to as many people as possible - and know what you want. Several of my friends just got back and loved the pool area of Mandaly Bay - price is fair and it is in a good location.
