I think FletchnMe had one, too. But he wasn't the same person who had one he wanted to sell.

He bought it from that auction on ebay that if I remember correctly you had bid on as well (the blue one). He also had two other early 80s MC outboards that were projects. Apparently he had to many projects. I was interested in the jump boat but the price was a little steep for a toy (I think he wanted $3k for it)

FletchnMe had the red one that he had redone, was stolen and then he put way to big of a motor on. That was a story.

I never heard the part about the motor. Any ill effects on the boat from that?

I think he caused some serious transom damage. I am going to look for the thread. That whole story about that jump boat was almost unbelievable.

Here is the post about the 80hp motor.

I owe a big apology to JIMN who told me not to try an 80 HP Merc on the jump boat that I restored. First off, this boat is frickin Christine as it has been stolen, dropped, dragged, repainted, mounted, cavitated and nearly sunk with a broken transom. I will send pics but it did fine up to about 34 MPH but gave it more and it cavitated violently, porpoised and slammed nose first causing fractures in the transom. Listen to JIMN. I had an extra outboard in the shed and looky where it got me. Back to the DAMN DRAWING BOARD AGAIN. I don't even want this thing anymore. about 5 large for a free boat so far and I am still going. Inboard for life.

And the theft

Hi All,

I have a travesty to report. Some of you might have read about a Mastercraft jump boat I found in a barn in south central Wisconsin. (for those who are unfamiliar, 12' long, outboard. ie, caddy shack and Tommy Bartlett boats). I had it repainted with candy red and white metal flake paint. I took it to a Corvette specialist as he promised me a flawless job on fiberglass. Engine was not yet mounted and hull had no VIN. Was stolen OFF OF a trailer on Saturday night. It is an original design which should be easy to tell. One wide 3 foot stripe front to back(red on white), both topside and hull with 4 large white stars both top and bottom. Side graphics feature 'disco-esque' 'Mastercraft' which is not dissimilar to original. Custom interior is one bench seat, seating two with micro-stitched stars (red on pearl). HAS MERCURY throttle pillar and wiring harness...was 8 hours from being mated with outboard. If anyone in the midwest sees a jump boat, please see if this matches my description. I worked very hard and put dozens of hours into it. Please contact me if anything is seen. Jason 773.354.4127
Jim, I believe that you were referring to the 250LB daughter that the guy was trying to hook me up with. Then there was the gag reflex, followed by my comments about how she looked like a bratwurst glistening in the above-ground pool. Anyhoo, I got some good news for now.

Someone called a Mastercraft dealer in Madison, Redline, I believe and asked what the motor capacity was for a 12' fiberglass Mastercraft outboard. The guy at the dealership told him that he would have to look into that and would get back.

Lesson for your aspiring criminals; DO NOT GIVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER TO ANYONE WHEN DEALING WITH STOLEN GOODS. Anyway, as I had asked 100+ people that same question, I believed that this might be an issue. I got a call and turned it over to local county sheriff's office. I guess the guy is a career vehicle theif but they have not gotten the boat back yet. Hoping and praying I am. Thanks for the consolation everyone.

I actually got flowers from my mom...

Boat found fellas, at the guy's dad's barn (grammar?). Anyway, I have to have it repainted as he strapped it to the roof of a 77 Oldsmo-buick and lost it on the way back according to his buddy and assailant. I guess it took a 100 yard slide on a county Highway at 4AM. He was already in custody stemming from a warrant that his own phone call led them to serve; domestic battery. He sounds like a wonderful guy. Anyway, thanks for the help and everything. It sucks but I'm not SOL anymore. I guess the guy was planning on sinking it when he got bailed out so he would not get pinned for posession. His partner rolled over on him. Thanks again and I will send some pics when it gets back from paint...again.--Jason

Holy flurking schmit, that sucks. Amazing the transom was the only thing fractured.
