I just bought a 2007 X-Star SS and had the tower speakers and amp taken off at the dealership. I was wondering if anyone knew off of the top of their head which JL amp MC uses to power those as I am thinking of adding tower speakers after all in the near future. I'm not sure if it's the M2150 or the M4300. Thanks.

2 or 4 speakers?

Do they use different amps depending on the number of speakers? I will probably start with 2 but want the option to expand to 4 for the future. I would have figured MC would have used a standard amp for tower speakers regardless how many you ordered... interesting. Thanks.

I actually went to my dealership to get quotes for 4 speakers and an amp and they told me $4000 for all of it, plus installation. I then went to one of the better car audio shops near me, that happens to do the installations for all the dealerships. They quoted me $2000 including installation and since they installed it they knowe which JL models to get. They said that the m4300 is what i would need for 4 speakers.

Thanks for the insight. That doesn't really surprise me, it seems as though dealers really like their products based on what they charge. I'm not complaining though I like my MC dealer.

After the first advice I got from my dealer on how to start my boat on land and burning up an impeller since they were completely wrong, dont like them all that much right now. They sold me a fake a wake to put on the bottom, didnt know of the two intakes one for the ballast one for engine which is covered up. Waiting for the parts to come in now for my freshwater hook up.

$4k plus install sounds just about right....are they quoting you 2k w/ the same speaker cans that MC uses?

Erk, can you tell me what I'd be looking to pay for 2 MC tower speakers with the integrated lights? No amp or install, I'd do that myself.

Sorry about that, my computer kept messing up so I thought it wasn't posting my message.

As far as AMPs, I think it is a 6 channel that you should put in there if you may go to 4 speakers at some point.

Why is that? I already have the 6 channel, the M6450 to control the cockpit speakers and the sub. The amp that was in there was definitely smaller because I can see the imprint from where it was below the M6450 and it was used to power 4 tower speakers.

Sorry for the thread jack, can the mastercraft bimini be mounted higher on the tower if I had the speaker cans rather than say speaker encloser. 04 X-9

I just added 2 tower speakers to my 06 x-1 and I'm powering those, plus the 4 already in the boat, with the new JL M6450 6 channel amp and it sounds fantastic. Plenty of power. I was able to get the amp for $390 from a local shop.

BTW look over in marketplace. I noticed that someone is selling a set of tower speakers with integrated lights. Those speakers/cans are about $1,600 for a pair new without the lights. I was able to piece mine together from CL and other places for about $700 total and did the whole install myself, with some help from Trickskier. And if I can do it, a blind monkey could do it.

PM me if you want more info.

the 04 cans and the newer 07 cans won't help you but maybe an inch or two....and the new ones are acutally bigger.

ERk, are 2005 and 2006 mounts the same? Sorry for the threadjack. :o

Archimedes

Are the towers the same? If so, the 06 cans should mount up fine. There are no 'mounts' on the 06 tower, you drill holes and bolt the cans on. I understand the 07's actually have those stubby mounts on the tower already, hence the new mounting setup.
