OK, in my tradition of starting cheesey threads here, I figured we needed to get REAL cheesey! SO lets talk about CLASSIC professional Wrestling. Not the current stuff, as I havent watched wrestling in years. but most of us remember the 70's and 80's wrestling scene given the age bracket that hangs out here. so Lets hear the stories, and see the pictures. I will start it out with the Nature Boy Ric Flair! WOOOO! byt the way, wrestling is real, right guys? right?:o come on back me up on this....guys??:( ;)

Back in the day, I used to know Brutis the Barber Beefcake! What a great guy. He was close friends with Hulk, and lived in Land o Lakes, Fla with the guy that was part owner of Fla. Water Sports, The Mastercraft dealer at the time. Talk about a nut, NEVER get in a car with him driving! Would scare the begeebies out of you!

My dad took us as kids to Louisville Gardens to watch Jerry the King Lawler, Austin Idle, Billy superstar Dundee, Andre the Giant, and The Fabulious Ones. We loved it and would watch it on Sat. mornings and listened to Lance Russell and Dave tell their stories.:o

Big John Studd died too. He lived right down the street from my uncle in Lorton, VA.

I heard that Luger was cleared on that too, there was some speculation there as I remember hearing in the news. What happened to Kurt Henning? thats an odd thing that so many have died, thats a large ratio actually. What happened to Eddie Gurerro?

Brian Pillman died of roids didnt he?

WOW, I havent head the words "moondog spot" in like 15 or 20 years!!!

co-worker was on a flight with several "pro" wrestlers, and they were having a great time on the flight joking around, trying convince him he needed to change careers, dancing with FA's. After they got off in the luggage rack, security was heavy, with lots of "interaction".

I once changed seats to sit next to my ex-wife, and gave up the seat next to hulk hogan. What a mistake that was, LOL. Especially since I decided on that trip to get divorced... So I guess Hulk Hogan had a hand in my divorce, LOL. Long live the hulk!

Before he developed a touch of the Alzheimer's, I used to duck hunt with Vern Gagne every fall and know him well. His wife was a patient of mine. He's a great guy, great stories. When I was a kid, I used to watch All Star Wrestling in Omaha all the time in the 60's - if anyone had ever told me that some day I would experience the "sleeper" or "death grip" from Vern himself, I'd never have believed it. Vern has lots of interesting perspective and hilarious stories on things like steroids, and some of the old midwestern greats like Mad Dog Vachon (whom I've also met - hilarious guy, but truly crazy), Larry "The Axe" Henning, Baron von Rashke, Vince McMahon, Nick Bockwinkle. Vern was the AWA and was the one that got Hulk Hogan into the big time (among others). Vern loves the Hulkster, but has a distinctly low opinion of Jesse Ventura and was particularly upset when Jesse was elected governor of Minnesota (Vern lives in Minneapolis). I remember Vern telling me that his biggest regret was that he never maximized the entertainment potential of pro wrestling, especially the merchandising. He readily admits that he was never much for the flash and flair and looks at that as a mistake. His other big regret is for at least a few wrestlers that worked for him that died from steroids before anyone realized how dangerous they were back in the 70's.

But, this thread ain't complete without mentioning the von Erich family. Kerry being the most famous as he made his way to the WWF, but Kevin being the best wrestler. Then let's not forget Terry Gordy's nemesis Killer kahn (they're fighting in the locker room....).........and the Great Kabuki, the Gentleman Chris Adams, Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat, Jake "the Snake" Roberts, Blackjack Mulligan, his son Barry Windham and of course his partner collegiate champ Mike Rotundo. Also, Seargeant Slaughter, Billy Graham, Tony Atlas, Brett Hart.
