You've already got a laptop with a GPS rig on it, right? Add Sirius antenna and you're there.

Ok. forgot to add one thing. It should be roughly the size of my Blackberry. ;)

My wife's samsung phone will do everything but the GPS IIRC. Doubt that could be added, but is probably an option. Smaller than a blackberry.

The only problem with the sat radio on the phone is that all calls go to VM while you're listening.

Dream Gadget:

I'll take my current laptop with a 200 hour battery and a built in wireless card that can get a signal from 1000 meters and I want the laptop to be able to use bluetooth and integrate with my phone so that I can use the phone's minutes when I am traveling down the road and need to get online and built in GPS with a 500 Gig Hard Drive ... and I also want to be able to plug the laptop into my MasterCraft EMC so that when I am on the water I can diagnose any problems and post them right to the site so JimN or Engine Nut can chime in - between skiing and barbeque

As far as wireless goes, you can get broadband cards from Sprint and Verizon that supposedly have great reliability. Sprint is giving one of the cards away after rebates. Not sure what the service costs or if it just uses the minutes. Someone on here had a thread about the verizon wireless broadband service a while back.

I've got the broadband Verizon thang and I LOVE it! I use to have the card but then they came out with the ability to tether w/ Blackberry's so I use that route now. I can still talk on the phone and have near broadband speed internet all at once.

Well since my dream gadget doesn't exist I am going to have to piecemeal it together. After driving thru Chi-town w/ a boat today I no longer will go anywhere I don't know without GPS.

Pendo- wireless doesn't do 1000 meters (Bluetooth I does 30' and Bluetooth II does 30 meters). WPNs (Wireless Personal Networks) use Bluetooth but that isn't compatible with WLANs. However, you can connect a cell phone to any laptop with the right cable (fits the port on a phone and plugs into the USB port). You can get a Bluetooth adaptor that plugs into a USB port, too. If you run out of ports, you can get expansion adaptors. The diagnostics can be bought- the cable and software are proprietary but they are available, usually to dealer/servicers only. If you can stand the phone quality on a Treo, you can use that for all of this (I think it has GPS), I know it does MP3 with an SD Memory card, I know it has a data port and can be connected to a laptop, and I know they do Bluetooth. The company I worked for had Treo phones with Sprint and they were terrible. We switched to Blackberry on Nextel and it was much better, although they don't have a card slot. IIRC, they do have some memory for music files but I don't know how much memory they have.

jrandol- if you need all of them and there's not one unit that has everything, remember- there's always duct tape.
