After cleaning and waxing my 197 prostar. I noticing that there are only two screws to hold the water inlet vent to the bottom of the boat, evern though it has four screw holes. Any one that has the 197, could you check your boat to see how many screws does your has ?

Thanks,

boatless.

I always notice you can check this stuff in a hurry - I think I've got it figured - Do you park the boat in the house like Robert Urich had his vette in his house??

Like wise on my 209 - only 2 screws installed. I did not see any drill holes in the hull for additional screws.

Yep, only two on mine also. I thought maybe that was designed in so that if you hit something hard the strainer would break off rather than do more damage to the hull?

The water pickup is held in the hull with a big nut on the inside of the hull after it was siliconed. The 2 screws in the front of the pickup are there only to anchor the pickup from turning to the side or around and starving the raw water pump, if something hit the pickup and broke it loose. Our '89 only has 2 screws too and years ago I asked why and that was what I was told by MC.

2 here, can you crawl back under there and note the proximity of your water pickup screen to the bunks?

I've been selling boat parts for 5.5 years now and have seen 1,000's of these installed. I've seen 2 with all 4 screws. They NEVER install more than two.
