Does anyone know where to find a "how-to" description of the west coast slalom style/technique? I understand that this technique is helpful for the height-challenged skier like myself (5' 8"). I did a Google search, but didn't come up with any actual descriptions of how it's done. Latest Waterski magazine indicates that Mike Suyderhoud is working on a video, but it's not out yet.

Marcus Brown.

go to http://www.marcusbrown.net/video.html

watch the video entitled one handed gate instructional.

This is mainly a discussion of the one handed gate technique but the turns follow the same reasoning, as does edging.

Also waterskimag june 2005, volume 25 issue 5, for right after Marcus took the Moomba Masters. It has some good discussion of west coast slalom.

What is important to emphasise is that there is no "west coast slalom" as in one thing doesn't work for multiple skiers the same way.

Terry Winter does not ski the same way that Marcus brown does, MB is very agressive, TW alot more smooth.

And watch video of andy mapple, and will asher, you'll see the west coast ideas, just not to the extremes of JB's angulated knees, etc.

In the new Winter 2006 issue of WaterSki magazine, is a article on page 63 on Mike Suyderhoud, the "West Coast Guru". He is introducing a new DVD, "West Coast Slalom" on the technique he formulated in 1993 and now practiced coast to coast.

This video has been expected all year... still nothing.

No, just old school, but I do use the Southern Technique for keeping up a boat!
