my buddy who just last year bought a bayliner for fishing and cruising now got the watersports bug. he wants to get a vdrive inboard, so he wakeboard and still have some room to fish  ...
mc is out of the question since his price range is below what even a used mc vdrive would go for since mc wakeboard boats have not deappreciated that low yet. however tige's and moomba's have . he can get a 2003-4 vdrive wakeboard boat of either brand for his price range.

so hopefully this wont turn into a mc is better thread and why he should by an mc, becuase we all know this. does anyone have any input on which boat would be a better buy. im thinking tige. but i dont have any expeeience behind or in either one so i dont have any inout for him..

Personally, I would go Tige all day over Moomba, but my experience is only with the inboard. I skiied one in the mid 90s and thought it was a nice boat with a nice, flat wake.

I second this....from what I have seen first-hand, Tige boats are very nice.

thats what i think , i believe he can get the moomba outback V or tige 20V for about the same.

he wants to stay around 26-28. the reason he wants a dealer is so he can trade in the bayliner and not have to deal with selling it and get financing.

the dealer got him all fired up on a possible 2001 X10 , but hasint found one yet.

What is the dealer support for each in the area?

I think a good dealer will make a big difference when he needs parts, etc.

that i dont know......

however it cant be worse than our mc/bu dealer support. although it is getting better for me with my grease the wheels program.

What about a 2000 ProStar 205V...those are awesome wakeboard boats!

rodltg2

that would work, but it would have to come with all the wakeboard get up.

Tige made here in Texas!

On thing to be mindful of with Tige is that they were still using wood stringers encased in glass longer than pretty much all the other inboard manufacturers. I can't remember when the last year was, but it was either 2002 or 2003. Just something to think about.

my buddy is so new to boating and does not take care off his stuff. so a starter boat would be best. he has had his bayliner since march 05 . uses it almost every weekdend and has not changed the oil yet.

26-28 will buy you a 2000 205V with all the bells and whistles. On another note, I wakeboarded behind a Tige 2000 21v and was very impressed with the wake when loaded down. I also thought the fit & finish was very nice. I would take it over a Moomba.

To be quite honest, I'm not sure a 2000 21v would be all that much cheaper than a loaded 2000 205V. Maybe a couple thousand at the most?

With that being said, he doesn't deserve a MC.

Ahhhhh, a used Bayliner that's been poorly maintained. Feel sorry already for the poor slob who winds up buying that boat used from the dealer. :o

When I was at Comp Sports, we had a customer with a Tige and water got into the foam, which is supposed to be closed-cell but wasn't. It was listing hard to one side. They paid to truck it down to Abilene and when it got back, it was listing to the other side. Still had open-cell foam and I have a hard time believing that it would actually work as floatation. Comp wanted a replacement, Tige didn't want to and it went to court, with Tige refunding the retail price. Charlie was not a happy camper.

The Tige boats tend to be pretty heavy, too. Personally, I would be looking at a '97 - '98 or a 2000 Maristar. If he wants to add a Skylon or Fli-Hi, it would be cheaper than a tower and would do everything he wants. Even if one could be found (someplace other than where I am) that needs some work, it's still a whole lot of boat.

I agree with what jim said in regards to there floatation. i know there are at least 4 tige as the bottom of tablerock....

i used to have a moomba (a 02) and never had any problems with the boat at all. i will say there is not a lot of bling to them but the quality was good.

My uncle has a 97 Tige V-drive. I believe it was the first year of the v-drive for Tige. Its has a 454 in it and is a dog. I skied behind it once and told him to punch it. I had a loop of slack in the rope and it still drug me through the water. Heavy boat, yes. Does not handle well either. Hopefully they have made some strides in the last few years.

I don't know moomba or tige, only been in the moomba and not a wake boat.

I do know that there are still inboard manufacturers making wooden stringer boats, and that if MC hadn't gone to composite that Ski Nautique never would have.

The wooden stringer boats handle rough water and chop better w/ less noise or pounding than a composite stringer boat will.

Have talked about this with various people, the wooden stringer boats definately ride smoother.

They can rot... but only if the fiberglass isn't done properly.

He may be in luck. I just posted a Prostar 205 in the market place for 25K. It's a direct drive, but has a awesome wake. It's the same hull they are still using for the X1 and previous year X2 and whatever name they could have given this hull. But if he doesn't take of things then "my baby" may not be for him.

Tige has the warranty advantage. (only based on written text, but have no idea as to how they stand behind it) ... I'd get a lightly used MC

touche' rod ... but if he is spending 26-28 I think he can get a Vdrive in any brand no older than 2000, but it depends how upside down he is in the bayliner ... I'm not rich, I just spend my money on toys (and don't have a houseboat or a Cesna to maintain:))

getting out of the bayliner will be the tough parts, especially considering brunswick (http://www.bymnews.com/new/content/view/33010/57/) needs to move some inventory on units at the dealerships

i think he will have to trade in the bayliner if he wants to get rid of it soon. he's not upside down on it ar least.

by the way i sold my cessna to buy the houseboat:)

my buddy got one a while back, maybe it was yours ... he flew up to Spokane and was trying to get me to go for a ride ... mind you, I get sick at the top of a ferris wheel and I am a bit chlostraphobic ...
