View Full Version : Tiny bubbles in oil

On my Jeep Wrangler (4.0L), I have been getting very tiny bubbles on my dipstick lately. I remember from when I was a kid, my dad's Chrysler having bubbles on it's dip-stick, but those were much much larger than what I'm getting.

Honestly, it almost looks like air-bubbles, not water/antifreeze. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, but had to get a better opinion.

thoughts?

Make sure your at the right oil level. You might try about a 1/2 quart less next time, as this is sometime a sign that the crank shaft counter weights are hitting the oil and causing aeration.

I had a few tiny ones on my dipstick sometimes too, I usually filled it as above and it seemed to help a bit, put 134k on it, still going strong today to the person I sold it too, 2 years ago.

Sorry, not much help, but listen to this (mms://music.walmart.com/g2demand/000/81/22/73/80/52/0008122738052.01.01.001.asf) and you should be fine.

I agree with Bret, it's probably aeration......Are you having to add any antifreeze to your surge tank?

Thanks all for the info. Next time I change the oil, I'll try not putting in the full 6 qts & see if that's the problem.

No, I haven't needed to add any anti-freeze to my surge tank.
I really can't complain about this jeep. 170,000 miles & still as strong as the day I brought her home.
