With everyone skiing on Monza's now, I am curios about how everyone got to that ski.

ie: George Athens ---> Connely Hook ---> EP ---> Obrien Comp 3 ---> HO CDX ---> HO Truth ---> Monza (just for example, not that this is cronologicaly correct:)

Also what was the deciding factor on each new purchase.

I didn't get to that ski... went D3... how's that for a step??
Obrien World Team --> Obrien Siege --> Connelly F3 --> Goode 9200 --> D3 nomad... i like it.

Here's how I went.

Some crappy double skis ---> the slalom from those crappy double skis ---> HO VTR (great ski and all my skill level will ever need)

First Slalom stick: EP (Don't know the model-it was orange and blue. Steve137 brought the same ski down to MM for Steveo JR)

HO Mach 1 w/ Double boots
HO Phantom Truth w/ Animals
HO Monza w/ Approachs (now w/Fluid Motions)

For me:

Obrien Pro Circuit --> Jobe 1600 --> KD7000 --> D3 X5

1) Some big flat bottom wood ski
2) Connelly (wood) Hook. Beautiful ski, my Grandfather gave it to me for my 16th birthday. I still have it, my daughter skis on it now.
3) O'brien World Team Comp. Hasn't everyone used one of these? Had to buy a longer ski. As a heavier (fatter) 25 year old just getting back into it I could no longer use my beloved Connelly.
4) EP Comp1. Circa 1986? Based on a good review in WaterSki mag it seemed like the next logical step from the O'brien. Also, I started course skiing while on this ski.
5) Kidder Pro Tour Graphite. Recommended from a coach (he was selling Kidders at the). The Kidder was not nearly as stable as the EP, but I found myself running the course much earlier on this ski.
6) Kidder EX. Totally cool purple and orange graphics... even though they were going out of style in the early to mid '90s when I got this ski.
7) HO VTI. Recommended by the same coach as before. He changed brands, so did I.
8) HO VTR. The VTI had taken me as far as it could (at least that's what the coach/ski dealer told me!) He might have been right... Went from 15off/32mph to running 28's @ 34 on this ski. Wish they still made one like it.
9) HO Phantom. Did not work for me! Wasted almost 2 seasons on this ski. before heading back to Denny Kidder.
10) KD CR7. I had 2 of these. First one a yellow 2001 model broke, so it was replaced with a 2002 model for no extra $$$$. The only 2 times I ever ran a 32 off pass was on this ski.
11) D3 X5. Current ski (whew!) I like this ski. Just completed my 3rd season on it. I am very consistant on this ski. My buoy count hasn't really improved though. :(

Zip Sled --> Obrien Combo set --> Old no name wooden ski--> 1/2 Obrien Combo Set --> O'Brien G2 Weapon --> O'Brien Mapple --> HO CDX --> HO Monza.

Would have stuck with the CDX for years to come if Mike at MC Charlotte hadn't cut me an unreal deal on his prototype monza. Rarely is something too good for me to pass up. This was.

I also have a 86" Maherajah GS Long Board for those not so glassy days.

It's cool to still have that EP and give it to Jr. That was my first slalom ski about 26 years ago. Went for many years and didn't ski very much.
Started learning on a friend's EP and World comp.

EP Comp1
OBrien Siege
KD 7000 cg

D3 or Goode would be my next choice.

For those of you saving your old skis for your kids...(I was), I suggest pulling out that 30 yr. old stick and taking a crack at it YOURSELF and see if you don't change your tune. My CompX2 was an awesome ski, but YIKES! I tried it again last year for some late season goofing around. I put it back in the rafters and haven't suggested anyone use it since.
