Long story short: left boat at upholstry shop... Someone broke in.. stole my glove box and radio... Stole the owners prized beetle... busted out the windows on a new camary.... Stole lot's of tools... I guess the f----- thought something was in the glovebox:mad: ... took the whole dang thing... At least they didn't tear up my boat... could have been a lot worse... I feel bad for the owner... Anyway 86 tristar 220 anybody know where I could find the GB??? I'm thinkin that's one part that may have remained pretty constant in design....

His deal!! not mine!! I'm not into beetles, but if I had to have one that'd be it.... it was nice... You do realize that Mr. Porsche invented the beetle????... I on the other hand just need a glove box... My dash looks like crap... And I don't hav anywhere to store my....gloves

I realize Dr. Porsche invented the beetle, and that the 356 sports cars and its predecessors relied heavily on parts derived from Volkswagon parts.

And i realize that there are certainly owners of Porsches who have VW engines stuck in there. Doesn't mean they belong in there.

I've seen a 356 C super 90 engined VW based dunebuggy... that's a pisser. Those engines have cars that need them.

A lot o folks who can afford to fix porsches up will throw away engines faster than they'll fix em... why can't the beetle have some love??? Ahh they waste money one way..... we another..... thanks for the correction on the Dr.

i think the karmen ghia had an 36 hp VW bug engine to begin with, surely they upped the power cause it lasted into the 70's.
and beetles got pretty powerful..

I just feel that the porsche engine needs more care and won't get you any more power than one of those long block VW engines out of the tuner magazines.

And its still no picnic getting those nuts onto the trans bolts behind the engine leaning into the engine bay.

I really don't know that much about VW's or Porsche... I need to find a glove box.. Found a couple on ebay, but would rather have OEMC.... I was going to upgrade next season to a Sat radio guess I'll bee doing that sooner... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=330029407577&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=330029407577&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT any thoughts?

If memory serves me correct, the ghia had the same engine as the 914

It'd be odd if it did, seeing that the 914 was midengined, and the ghia was rear right? 914's use a VW bus engine anyway, not a porsche engine. maybe that's the difference between a type 34 ghia and the origional.
