just slap another one on that bad boy and be done with it... Rockman likes the yahammer, so put a 225 HPDI on it... Bad butt motor, with great gas mileage as well.

Are those the same Yamaha outboards that have to have the oil tank drained everytime it rains? I work on my old man's alot and it gets water in it all the time. We have a coffee can for this. Pull the line after a good rain to let the water drain. The engine is supposed to sense the water and shut off but his gets full and I hear it before any thing begins to shut down. See what is in your oil and then (I do not care how old) light Yamaha up!:o

I'll look at the oil in the morning......might be making some phone calls!

I believe so...Erk might have an exact location. I'll have the boat back tomorrow pm.

Deb (wife) said that at least we weren't on the boat with the little one and a bunch of people and had something REALLY bad happen. That I could not deal with. Bad enough that something I've baby'd for 9 seasons is kicking me in the a$$ now. Don't really know how to feel about it or react. Needless to say, footin time will be limited until the spring for me.

Thanks everyone for your concerns and PMs with some leads. I do appreciate it! :toast:

Rockman,
That actually seems like a very good price for a '96 Venom 200.

However, you may want to consider a rebuild. If you can find a replacement block/head (whichever it is), you may not have to spend much.

When I rebuilt my "old" Merc 110 because of an overheat (picked up a plastic bag and blocked water intake), it cost me $4k (new crank, rods, pistons, rebuilt head, new reeds, needle bearings, ported, etc.). I looked into a "new" motor, which was going to be about $8-11k and decided that the rebuild was acceptable. The guy who did the work built lots of outboard race engines, and used his knowlege to get me more power out of my old Merc. It ran better than new after it was done...

Just a thought.

M-Funf,

Thanks for the input.

I have a estimate from one guy here and a buddy of mine up north is going to talk to his guy this weekend who does alot of work on their offshore racing boats. My buddy up north had work done on his ski boat this summer and was very happy as well. He thinks it would be easy for his guy to do a new power head and all since the guy is used to pulling out motors, rebuilding them and putting them back in.

The prices are probably going to be about $3k-$5k depending on parts, etc.

Seems about right. Something made that hole, so I'd guess that there's some more parts that need replaced as well. Has anybody put a borescope in the spark plug hole to see if there's any cylinder or piston damage?

I'm not sure what Erk and the guys had looked at in detail. I don't think they looked at much since the labor rates would have to start kickin in. I am really interested though as to what happened. It doesn't seem right where the hole is or what had "suddenly" happened.

I will be able to see tomorrow when I get the boat back...may just have to rip the thing apart in the garage to get an answer. Damn, I just cleaned the garage too! Sorry, that about all the laughter I have in me since the weekend. :o
