351......if you pull the rear drain plugs on the exhuast manifold, how far should you be able to insert your finger unobstructed? should both sides be the same? please give a favorable answer :)

I think that the manifold is jacketed. I'm worried that one of the jackets is rusted through. I stuck my finger in to dig out some rusty chips.

I guess it's ok? I'm worried that water is going to be directed straight into the combustion chamber if the jacket is rusted through. Does anyone know the answer to my question?

If the inner jacket is rusted through, it is POSSIBLE that water could get into an exhaust port.

I can't remember how far in you should be able to stick your finger in there, but I would say if you can stick it ALL the way in, something is amiss.

Can you stick a pen or pencil all the way in there? Have you shined a flashlight in there?

Rust flakes coming out is normal.

I can stick my finger all the way in the manifold, so i could certainly stick a pen or pencil. I'll shine a flashlight in there and see how it looks, i probably better get one on order.

I have the Pleasurecraft exhaust manifolds. Are you talking about the plugs that you use a 1/2" ratchet to take out. They're almost the size of a quarter in diameter? If so I can barely stick my finger in. Maybe like up to the cuticle of my fingernail. That is the same on both sides.

Brian, thanks for checking. Yeah, i'm talking about the 1/2 plug on the back of the PCM manifold. On the drivers side, i'm the same as you, up the the cuticle, on the other side, it's a different story. I rechecked and I can stick my finger about 3/4 of the way in on the other side, but after examining things further, i think it's ok.

They are a reversable manifild and the obstruction is the same distance on the front of the pass side as the rear on the driver side and vice versa. I had assumed that they should be exactly the same, but even examining them from the outside, they are different on each end.

does anyone know of a plug of that size that has a petcock on it?

Thomas no worries.

I know it is a pain in the arse to get the port side one out. I have to put the ratchet in at an angle and keep some serious pressure on it while I turn. Winterizing is a pain, but it is a great feeling when you drop that battery in come spring time and she fires right up.

skidim.com has a set of petcocks that go on the engine and exhaust. The only thing I have noticed is the petcock for the exhaust hole drain from the center of the hole leaving some water in exhaust below bottom edge of hole of the petcock.

If there are chunks of rust in there, how are they going to drain fully? Better to get the hoses and fittings that are used now so you can just disconnect the fitting between the two manifolds and have the water gush out. You would be able to see if there's a clog by how fast the water comes out, not trickling out like a petcock. Petcocks aren't even a good idea for the block. The path through them is way too small, IMO.

i was thinking just for a quick drain between ski's in the late fall, but pull the plug fully when I do the winterization.
