Hey all, I live in Winter Park, CO and got engaged a few weeks ago. I usually put my boat and my antique Jeep in a storage unit from September through June (keep in mind it's snowing up here already). I am moving to the Atlanta area in the spring and wanted to ship my old Jeep ahead of me as there is space on the other end and I can pull the boat in the spring.

Does anyone have experience with shipping cars? I don't want it driven at all so I need to ensure that I can put it on a truck and then have it taken off. If anyone has any ideas on this, I would really appreciate advice.

Thanks - J

Welcome to Atlanta where the players play. Where 'bouts town you moving or looking?

Try this link.... http://www.1staboard.com/ It is a web board that the shipping companies use. You should get emailed several quotes within a few days.

Get a copy of Hemmings Motor News. There is a services section where all of the auto shippers are listed. Everytime I move I shipped my cars and found the carrier there. You will find a wide range of pricing but with the route you are shipping there should be several carriers that have a spot available.

I know of several people who have used InterCity Lines to transport rather expensive cars across the country for shows, modifications, or just because they were moving...like you...

They're probably not the least expensive, but I know they do excellent work...

I "WAS" going to have a "CAR" shipped here about a month ago from Tenn. I found a place in Tenn. that was going to load it at location, and unload it at an Il. location for $1.00 per mile ONE WAY including load and unload. The "CAR" deal went sour so it didn't go though. Just thought you might want a $ reference.....
There are alot of them out there. Some are tractor trailers, and others are P/u with flat beds. It seems to be cheaper if you are willing to drop off at their terminal and pick up at another closer to your destination.

Hey All, thanks for the input. Pirate, I don't want anyone driving this thing as it is my pride & joy; but thanks anyway. I sent in a few requests for quotes today so i am still waiting for those responses.

I will look into the ones suggested here though and can't thank you all enough for the help. My only concern is the excitement with which the fiance is accepting this...don't know if I will ever get to drive it again. - J

I won't bend her up....Promise
:D

A cross country ride in a jeep, that would be a long trip.

You'd probably only have to charge him what $3 a mile for you to drive his Jeep?

Yeah, in an old CJ, you will be peeing blood in an hour. Great weekend fun but that would not be a fun ride. Plus, it only has 60k on it so I want to preserve the fun.J

I drove a bigfoot edition 90 something jeep from Panama City to Atlanta one night. That was miserable.

What year?

Oh yeah, they are fun to drive around town but miserable on the highway. I love old Jeeps but they have their places. Leaf springs were discontinued for a reason.
