Hi,

I have got a 93'prostar 190, the strut bearings are completely dead.
So, I would like to rebuild my transmission.
Does any one has some technical documentations or any tips ?
More over do you know where I can find the parts?

Thanks a lot for the help.

D.

What's wrong with the transmission that it needs to be rebuilt? Try Skidim for parts, possibly manuals.

Thanks for your answer. My transmission is making a noise at slow speed. (850 Rpm)
I think the strut bearings need to be replace. I have no idea how to do that.
Do I need to remove the transmission from the boat? Have you ever done that?

Thanks.

To replace the strut bearings, the propshaft needs to come out, but not the transmission. The bearings need to be removed with a press or slide hammer. There is one at the top and one at the bottom. Installing new ones requires either a press or a large diameter bolt and nut (fine thread, preferably) with washers that won't deform as they pull together. This can definitely be done with the strut still on the boat.

Can you describe the sound? Is it a rattle, whine or clumk?

it's a rattle at low rpm.

Really, these are strut Bushings, not bearings. But - if you follow JimN's advice, you don't need to remove the strut from the boat to do this procedure. It's not a lot of fun, but I have done it before with the boat on the trailer in an afternoon. It's about a 5-6 beer project (consumption rates vary with mileage)

is it a thimping rattle, or a clangy rattle? If you grab a hold of the prop (with the motor off of course), can you wiggle the shaft at all from side to side/top to bottom?

Could it be the dampening plate?

That would be my first recommendation too! Just replaced that, I thought the transmission was the culprit  How many hours on the boat?

No I can not wiggle the shaft at all from side to side/top to bottom.
What does the dampening plate look like?

Thanks for all your help.

Do you have a paicture of the dampening plate?
Is it an hard work to do?

dc, no pic of my trashed one (wish I did though) but here is a link to skidims site that shows one

WIth 2000 hours I would be willing to say this might be your problem. NOt hard to replace, if you have an engine jack you can do the whole thing in 3 hours or less. Take the transmission out, pull off the bellhousing and then replace the damper plate. Put it all back together and align the shaft and your done.
