My 88PS190 has a factory heater. It blows hot air fine as long as I'm pulling a skier, or have my RPM's up. As soon as I pull back on the RPM's the air temp drops to cool. Is this completely normal and customary, or is it an indicator that my impeller is going? I'd like to have hot air when I'm idling.

One solution is to add a Y-pipe (http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1020). There have been many threads on this here and there seems to be some question as to why it works. Nobody disagrees that it DOES work, however.

Thanks! Excellent reply. The link worked and it looks like Skidim has a solution. Thanks for the help. Once if get it installed I will post some feedback on the difference it had on my idle temp air.

skidim has the "y" pipe. I just added it last year to my boat. What a HUGE difference it made at idle speeds.

It works very well. That's how it works. I really don't want to get into why it works again. ;)

According to the guys at Heatercraft it works buy putting a small "pull" on the heater core so that even though the engine is not "pushing" as much water through the core at idle it is still moving additional hot engine water through the core. Without it, the water movement at idle is slow enough that the air blowing over the core cools it down faster then the hot water can reheat it. It increases the water flow at idle and the air flow can no longer cool down the core as much at idle speed.

Did 88 190's come stock with a factory heater?

It's listed in the owners manual, but I'm not sure if it was stock or optional. The heater in my 88 appears to be factory.

It was offered as a factory option.
