My boat has oil bath hubs, have never had these before on a personal trailer. What kind of maintenence should I be doing on these? How often to change the oil? How do i do it? What weight oil do I use??

I changed mine out recently b/c I had water in one.
1) Take off wheel
2) Remove plugs (2) in hub housing.
3) Drain
4) Flush
5) Refill
6) Put some sort of sealant on plugs and put them back in
7) Replace wheel
8) TORQUE WHEEL LUGS USING PROPER PROCEDURE!!!

15W40 is what has been communicated to me. Synthetic gear oil has been also...to help with water intrusion.

How much did you fill it? right to the top so there is no air bubble or do you leave some room for oil expansion?

Thanks
Jim

This is what I think about oil bath hubs, do it as often as you do gear lube in your axle housings in your truck. And use the same lube.....

And JR, did you mean your boat "trailer" has these hubs or your boat...???8p

I filled it to the approximate level that was in the 'good' hub before I started. Attached is a picture of the 'good' hub before I drained, flushed, and refilled it. I guess it's about 1/8" - 1/4" gap at the top of the sight window.
