Anyone have any pros and cons on the 2006 x-2. REally interested in the slalom wake.

Probably not the right boat if slalom is your concern. I have not slalomed behind mine, but at the speeds I would do that, I would think an X-7 or X-9 would be a better choice.

Pros: Great friggin boat. I absolutely love every aspect of this boat. Feels very big for a 20' boat

Cons: umm... It won't wipe itself down when I am done for the day.

I have yet to actually ski a new X-2 but from what I've been told it actually skis better than it wakeboards, it has a very flat hull. That was from the dealership. I've heard it a couple times also around other message boards too. I would guess it's not as good as a 190 or 197 but if you are looking for a boat that does both wakeboard and ski this might be the boat for you.

I Love my X2. I have the wake plate which really smashes down the wake for slalom and footin'. I have taken 2 people out that had 209's and they both said the X2 skied better and actually both bought X2's afterwards. It is the best boat I have had. Lots of room, great wakeboard wake, great surf wake, good slalom wake, good barefoot wake and just plain cool..:D

jkski can shed some light on this for you as I know he has been behind this boat a couple of times.

jk?

Prostar, Is your wake plate from the factory or aftermarket?

Kind of both, It is from the factory but at the time they were not offering it on the X2. So I had to install it myself. I think it is an option for 2007 X2's.

jlf - i think you may be referring to the 05 and before X2s.... or your dealer is smoking crack....

Are you talking about a Trim Tab (hinged off the bottom of the transom)?

I believe a Wake plate is someting that goes down into the water below the boats hull. It is like a little wing that pulls the boat down. I doubt it is something you would find on a MC. I think BU's have them.

Most likely, it is just a trim tab.

Don't know about the '07's. The 06 230VRS/X30, at least, have a wake plate/trimtab/TAPS -- whatever you call it. It's a nice unit, does a pretty good job of shaping the wake.

This thread... (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=4812&highlight=trim) has the key info. It can be added later.

The 2007's can be ordered with the trim tab as well.

Just a little insight. Rode behind an X1 tonight. Even with all of the 06 goodies, the new X2 is worth every penny that it costs more. Handling, wake, size... all big pluses for the X2. Get out in one of these, unless you ski the course and really love to slalom at a high level, you'll love this boat and never look back. I can only imagine what the trim tab will do to the slalom wake.

It's a feindish plot to get slalomers behind a boat with an X on it !!!

Resist, resist !! The 214 is coming.

Seriously though, kid pressure will make a boat like X-2 worth looking at for me in a coupla years. Size is just right. Hate to admit it !

Gonna take next weekend off so i can rest it up for labor day!!! all and all I was back on the water that next weekend with small pain up until last weekend it has been doing good.

Okay... SO i use my winch every time I take the boat in and out of the water and that is 3 to 4 times a week. I have now stripped 2 handles and the main gear on the sinch has teeth broken off and when the line is tight it does not work. I have to drive it up. All this happens and I am 12 hours away from my dealer. There is a dealer in Kelowna but yah... This is rediculous..

Anyone else had any problems. Also on the way down I had a tie down strap on the back break on me!!!! I think I may have a lemon of a boat. My gauges also quit on me a couple weeks ago. Loose connection of course and still cuts in and out time to time...

IMHO a boat like this that you pay $70K+ CDN should not do this...BS if you ask me and they made me pay for all these things that have broke!

Sorry to hear about this. Mine has not had any issues. Were none of the repairs covered under the warranty?

I have no problems with my winch, but my trailer is off line. When driving the boat on the bow shoots to the left every time. The eye hook is not able to go inside the boat buddy, it hits the side every time. I've even tried turning the wheel all the way to the right, but it will still go left just before the boat buddy. My dealer is trying to work with Mastercraft, but to this point i don't know what is going on. So obviously I cant use my boat buddy, have to use the winch. But the winch has not failed me yet, it works very well. Just wish i could drive it on like all of my previous boats.

MCX2RYD:
.. just curious as to why you're using the winch instead of driving it up (which is far easier)?

.. do you make sure the trailer bunks are wet before you winch your boat up?

.. I'd agree that it's a pretty light duty winch they put on those trailers - probably because they assume that they won't get used much... If the nature of your ramp requires constant winch use, then I'd recommend buying a heavier duty winch - maybe one with two gear ratios.

.. your profile doesn't say where you are .
.. my experience with the MC Dealer in Kelowna has been stellar -- some great mechs there - and they're very good at getting things that should be warranty done on warranty.

.. surprized you broke a transom strap - that takes a LOT of force unless the strap has been compromised by chemicals, excessive sunlight exposure, or both. I'm also curious as to how a broken strap makes you think you have a defective boat? are you towing across some very rugged terrain?

Yesterday I went to Rayburn's and they replaced the winch on warranty no problem. It was great!

I am from Fort McMurray, AB. Bought the boat in Edmonton.

I don't drive it up all the way because most of the lakes in Alberta are a lot shallower than the lucky folk here in BC. SO I winch it up a lot. And the bunks are always in the water.

Yesterday I did drive the boat up all the way to the boat buddy but knowing my luck of course it never worked!!

And for the transom strap I just was driving HWY 2 between Edmonton and Calgary and turned off on a secondary. No rough roads and well then it fell off!! After it snapped of course at the stitching.

And as for a deffective boat.. maybe not defective.. the engine works!! Thank god for that!! But I have had gauges fail, stuff come loose everywhere, the hull looks like someone took sandpaper to it. UGHH its brutal.

Well thats enough of my ranting.. whether I but a Mastercraft again... well thats another question.

If you think these type of problems are limited to MCs, go read some other owner forums. I have been to other factories, ridden other boats, and believe me, MC is top notch.

I've had a few drinks and don't want to rant, so I'll leave it at that.

Agreed = Toured the Mastercraft Plan and the supra/Moomba Plant H$ll I have even toured been to Fineline in Ca. Mastercraft is by far and away the best out there. I konw that if you got intouch with MC they would make good on thier stuff. :)

By the way you should never need to tie your MC down THEY DON'T LIKE IT..............Mastercrafts are made to be free :D

We had a winch strap replaced already....we drive the boat on 99% of the time except for one boat launch where we make it 1/2 way and then winch it on. Our dealer replaced it right away, no big deal. I am not sure what happened but it looked torn 1/2 way right by the hook.

I had my last post deleted. Before my other one up there. But what it said was.... I had the carpet iin for the first time this year for a month and took it out. When I took it out being very nice and careful later looked at the carpet and seen one of the snaps from the boat in one from the carpet... as stated before everything came out with ease obviously that one a little too easy as it pulled right out of the floor with little effort!

I am gettin sick of all this stuff... Its more annoying than anything

Sorry you are having problems. It seems everyone has fairly good luck working through their dealers to sort out these problems. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you. MC is a top notch company, and they want us to be happy to the best of their ability.

Dealer installed eh?? They screw in all the carpet snaps? Cool.

Well my problem is that my dealer is approx 4 hours away from where I live. That is the closest to me. I live in Fort McMurray yah thats almost in the arctic!

I have a 06 x2 and love it. So far everything that you have complained about (except for the gauges) is a simple fix. Snap for carpet can be reinstalled with as little as a phillips screw driver.Tow straps are not made by Mastercraft. Go buy some new ones. As for the winch I have owned 4 Mastercrafts over the last 12 years and have NEVER had problems with the winch. My last comment would have to be that if you are that unhappy go to another boat dealer and trade it in. I promise whatever you get will have equally or more problems.

Looks like the same team that assembled your X-2 did my X-1 as well...:o

Still love my boat, but spent the first four months of ownership finding and repairing stuff all over it. Gel coat will never be great, but I've decided to focus on the positive. Like the smiles on my kids faces every time we're out on it.

This thread is interesting ... considering the JD power thread ...

the only MC problem I had with my 06 was a speaker shorting out, presumably from a screw in the upholstery being in contact with the speaker wire ... I just pulled a new wire, although it was not easy due to the mts ballast needing to be removed ... other than that I had a problem with the PP module (replaced under warranty - but this is a vendor part), and a problem with the depth finder (that has been corrected - allegedly - during winterization - and its a vendor part) ... if someone had listened to my stereo before it left the factory they would have caught the speaker problem, but that was my only issue thus far

Yeah, this is my second Mastercraft and I'd buy another one again just because I much prefer their designs to the competition, but if I got one of those JD surveys I would have to be honest and rip em an new a*hole. So many initial quality problems on my boat that it's become laughable. I'm very interested to see how things go this year during its first full season of use.
