View Full Version : Hot starting issue

89 Tristar 190. When I stop to pick up a skier, and turn the engine off, it has a hard time starting again. I have to pull the button, and while cranking it I pull the throttle back to get fuel into it. Several seconds later it finally starts. It did not do this until this year (I've had the boat for four years now).

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Have you done a complete tune-up on it lately? Plugs, points, condenser, cleaned the flame arrestor, changed fuel, water seperater filters, etc. adjusted the idle screws on the front bowls and last but not least checked the timing. One or all of the above could help in creating your problem. One other thing, have you considered a Electronic Ignition Conversion to the distributor. www.skidim.com has parts for the above mentioned maintenance jobs.

by cracking the throttle a little bit you'e allowing more air intake.
any smoke or smell after it starts ? pull a plug and see if they are dark.

you could have a leaky power valve or other carb issues. might be time for a carb inspection or overhaul.
