to keep my rear spare tire on my Jeep Liberty and get the 4" rise needed to meet my boat/horse trailers 18", have to add on a Class III hitch extension...just picked one up that extends the hitch 12" but indicates it reduces hitch by 1/3...

anyone have any background on the truth to what a hitch extension can take???the extension isn't a lock tight fit, maybe a 1/32" gap if even that...just slight enough to cause a little movement and allow easy release...

then my Ball Mount adds another 11" past that which more than clears the spare tire, to keep it on...

The further back it mounts the more it will affect how the car drives. Kind like the tail wagging the dog.

I use a 2 foot extension on my MC with no problems at all. It makes for a long rig with a full size ext cab pickup! I have a rig I put in the bed to haul a 3 seater sea doo and it overhangs the rear a bit. With the extension hauling both is no problem.

MAN, talk about a shin buster!!!!!!!!!!!

I was talking to my dad and I asked him why he painted his trailer hitch bright yellow. He said that he kept hitting his shins all the time on it and then one day he really hit his shin on it and was so upset he kicked it but he thought that he still had his steel toes on. ouch.

I think it is going to make the front of the vehicle "feel" alot lighter than it already is, and its going to make the rear sag more.
Probably also going to be alot of "jolting" from all the freeplay.
