I have the ticking noise coming from the port side just below the exhaust manifold - sounds like "pfffttt" - a brief puff of air but there's also something sounding like a mechanical tick...

If it is a lifter that's not lifting - what damage is done by running it?

Tighten your sparkplugs! :D

It could be a loose sparkplug or your exhaust manifold gasket...

Good Luck!

They may have sealed the exhaust mainfolds with sealant, so try tightening the bolts a bit. I have seen them loosen over time. They get about 35 ft lb of torque. With the motor cold, start it up and move your hand around in the area of the noise. If you feel a puff of air, remove the manifold and check it for gaps in the sealant or any cracks that may have formed.

Plugs are tight, have tightened the manifold bolts once...maybe it's time to pull it and check for gaps in the sealant - sure would be nice if that was all it is...

Thank you

Get a piece of tubing such as 3/8 in. fuel line about 2 ft. long. Stick one end in your ear and move the other end around the area where the sound is coming from and you'll home in on the culprit pretty quickly.
