Walked down to the gas dock this morning - gas is $5. a gallon!!!! That has to be one of the highest prices - it's a marina on a relatively small (500 acre) lake in SW Michigan. I'm too cheap even when gas was less - but to me seems like gouging....

I know that purchasing gas at a marina is going to be more expensive but I would assume that there are some sort of government regulations and limits on how much they can legaly charge. If there arent any regulations then there should be.

Considering a marina does not pay highway use taxes on their fuel (from what I have been told) it sure seems high. I believe here that is .43 cents on every gallon (maybe more).

It was around $3.00 a gallon at Swaha Marina on Lake Greeson last week.

Good people up there, they want repeat customers.

We paid $2.79 at the BP off the water over the 4th. Didn't check out the prices at the marinas at Pickwick on the TN River.

I paid $3.93 per gallon at Holiday Harbor on Lake Shasta and $4.50 at Trinity Lake Marina on Trinity Lake. $4.50 per gallon equals about $100.00 per day for me.

no idea what the ppg was at the marina this weekend... I just filled it up and paid the man. If he is gouging people I cannot figure out where the hell he is spending his spoils! :purplaugh

Marina gas prics around Minnesota are running $5-$6 per gallon on lakes and $6-$7 on the St Croix river.

My solution has been a portable tank. It avoids the regulations against permanent gas tanks within 80 feet of the shore, and allows me to pay pump price. The local oil company delivers non-oxygenated premium whenever I need it, or I can just haul the thing over to the gas station and fill it there.

Once in Michigan I pulled into a gas station by car and noticed they sold gas at their marina next to the gas station, pumped out of the same tank. The car gas was $0.89/gallon and the marina gas $1.79/gallon. I inquired as to why they gouge the boat owners, to which they claimed it was all about the liability insurance they had to have for the marina gas.

On the highway we are paying $2.79 a gallon and I bought gas at Indian Creek boat dock on Douglas lake this weekend and paid $3.50 a gallon for it. Not as bad as some of you guys/gals are paying

This gas situation is a pile of crap! There may be something to the liability issue, at the marina, but Ive never heard of it. I just asked a friend of mine who owns a big marina and he told me that there IS highway taxes included for marina fuel, however, diesel fuel that goes to marinas is NOT taxed. He also told me to expect HIGHER prices in the near future.   Damn greedy SOB's!

Marina averages about $0.50 above the local gas station. When you consider the additional costs for insurance and all of the compliance costs for having fuel on the water and keeping the tree huggers happy, factor in some payroll for weekends having someone basically just filling gas and other ancillary costs, at this price level they are not gouging. That being said, in my neighborhood $5.00 would be ludicrous . I can certainly see where some less than reputable places may charge the "captive audience" markup. Thankfully that is not the case at my marina.

$3.20 on the water here. Save 7% on Tue & Wed,
I save about $6.00, and leave a nice tip for the ladies at the pump ;)
