Located just down I80 in Mokena...think I may have to go and foot behind it this weekend. :headbang:

Think he has the Vortec 8.1 liter in it since he has the big engine cover with the air intake? :D

That boat is so ugly, if you tried to launch it the water would drain out of the lake rather than touch it!

I think someone tried to put it in this lake

Yes, sure is ugly, but was a popular boat in its day.

Useless information:
1.) 5 of the 7 original astronauts owned Hydrodyne boats.
2.) A large photo of a Hydrodyne hung at NASA headquarters for years.
3.) Jacqueline Kennedy took delivery of a 1963 Hydrodyne the day that President Kennedy was shot and killed.

Hydrodyne never did make a good looking boat. Here is our old one. I do not know why they put such an ugly windsheild in...

Heck, that's a beauty compared to this one. I guess the pylon is high enough for the ski rope to clear that gawdawful I/O engine hump(???)

I think it's so ugly, it may be cool.

Imagine showing up to the course at 6am sporting that thing, a pink accented HO ski from the 80's and some nice lime green shorts.... Would be great.

This is what Hydrodyne's are made for

Seriously, there is no comparison for Hydrodynes as towing rigs. To be able to set a boat up with triple 200's and not have the transom blow out amazes me.

Brings back memories. I once skiied with a Show Ski Team in Mohawk New York that had a Hydrodyne with twin 225 outboards. That rig acccelerated like a raped ape. They wanted to try and do a 12 person barefoot line one night. We all suited up and went out on slalom skis to do a stepoff. The boat wouldn't pull us out first try it just dragged us. The genius boat driver thought a little slack would give him enough of a start to get us going. He pegged it and almost ripped all our arms off, but it worked. By the time we passed the docks, there were nine of us still footing. When we got back, everyone was staring at the boat. The pylon had shredded thru the fiberglass upper deck and was laying back between the motors. We had a show the next day, so they blasted up river to find a shop that would fix it. The next morning it was back in service with a diamond plate reinforced fiberglass deck.

Wow, that's just a bit overkill for one swiveler, unless she looks a LOT bigger than she is! Kinda like using an 18 wheeler tractor to pull a sled trailer. :steering: Just kidding. :D

Our club just purchased a Hydrodyne, can't wait to see it in action. I agree, they are really in their own league for a tow rig.

They are very solid boats. The inboards, while having ugly windshields and bad color schemes, were great boats. I had a friend who sold them at his dealership.

Did you know the boat is still being built and sold based on the last outboard molds from the early 90's? From what I can see it is a single engine only and dosn't live up to what the old boats were.

tex

I was talking about the inboards. I understand that the outboard version is being made by 2 different companies? Maybe we can get one of those big cheesehead skiers to do some research and fill us in.

I carry a picture of it in my wallet. It was a 1972 top tenner bassboat. About 14 foot long w/65 hp johnson on it. It would run 36 if it had one person or 6 in it. I keep the pic in my wallet to always remind me and others where I started. My dad's was yellow and so much worse then this one. I snagged this pic off ebay..His was smaller!

www.dyna-ski.com - latest incarnation to which you refer. I have a brother who owns one of these models from the mid-80s. Been a pretty good boat for him. BKH
