View Full Version : Over reving then stalls

I have a 1988 Prostar with a 351 windsor engine. I bought the boat about 3 months ago and apart from a starter motor problem it has been great. However I had problems when I went out today.

I started her as normal and let her idle up to temp. Once up to temp, (up to now there were no problems everything was normal) she spluttered and died. Then when I restarted the belt started screamming like a banshee and the revs were completey erratic they jumped from 800 to 4000 and anywhere inbetween before eventually stalling again. I retarted her about 8 times each time the revs were jumping around horrendously (with no movemnt on the throttle by me) When I did try to rev her it had very little effect. Each time she stalled after a short perriod.

Could this be due to a blocked fast idle jet??

Any help would be gretfully recived.
Thanks Dave

have you had a look at the carb while all this is taking place ?
4000 rpm is basically full throttle, what has the ability to take your motor from idle to full throttle ? post more info.
