The dog is just saving a bladder full, to pee on Genes Patent Leather shoes when he comes back to visit. You can see the dislike for Gene in the puppy's eyes!

Chaz is a great dog name! We get our new girl on the 4th. Rescued and named Kismet. We are keeping the name because it somehow fits her looks.

A friend of ours had just got a new puppy and was slow in naming it. After a week and the subsequent waste issues, they named the dog "HAZMAT"! TRUE, and call her "Hazzie"!

I wish I could say this is going well but he is puking, has liquid poop, won't eat and won't drink. We syringed some pedialtye down his throat and he pukes it right back up. :( He may have Parvo. We are going to the vet this morning at 9:30 wish us luck.

Well he does have parvo. He has a 50% chance of making it. He is at the Emergency vet and will be for 1-3 days. If he makes it through this it will be very expensive but at least Nick will have his dog. Keep "Baxter" in your thoughts please.

I would have never guessed this two days ago.

No sleeping in our house tonight. No change in his condition either. He has been on the IV for 12 hours now. 12 hours from now we'll know if we have a chance at survival.

Thanks TO YOU GUYS for offering the support you have.

whew, sounds like things are looking up as I am just reading this thread for the first time.

How do they get parvo, what is it?

Steve, your rescue dog has GOT to be smarter than this yorkie we paid too much for ;) ! All your troubles will be worth it in the end I am confident.

Wow,Isn't it a bit steep?
Sometimes i think vets are exagerating a bit on such a case. It's not like he did a big operation on the puppy...Anyway ,glad everything is fine!

mag, mine has alot of brown and alot of silver in him now but he was quite black when we first brought him home.
Dumb as a brick by the standards I have set from Labs and Goldies, but a really loyal little shiet! He is a bug killer, chick magnet and nobody can convince him that he is not 10 times his actual size(that may be what gets him in the end!)

LOL I thought he looked like a dirty mop when I first saw him. :purplaugh He has since gotten a hair cut.

Ric

Yep since the girls don't take care of him like they promised, I get him cut short. That cutesie crap does nothing for me so he stays trimmed farr shorter than in the pic so I don't have to smell him.

He will dive into the lake if you jump in with your ski. I dont know why but he can't stand it. Skiing must look too dangerous to him (but apparantly rottweilers do not!)

Canine parvovirus is pretty deadly. It's seen in young puppies and causes vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and pretty rapid dehydration. It comes from feces of another infected dog, and takes hold because of the puppy's lack of immunity to that bug. Many breeders will recommend keeping puppies out of public areas until their vaccination series is complete at about 16 weeks but vaccination's not 100% effective. Older dogs are immune to parvovirus because it's so common in the environment and they are therefore repeatedly exposed enough to develop immunity so that the full-blown disease can't take hold.

$1200 doesn't seem that out of line to me. I don't even want to try to total up what I've spent with vets over the years. Let's see - one elbow reconstruction, two hip arthroplasties, remove a dog food bezoar from the stomach, remove a carpet string from the intestine, the splenectomy (http://mccollister.info/sassy/sassy.htm), numerous spaying/neutering operations...and those don't include either the cats or the horses...
