2006 U.S. Open of Waterskiing: Presented by MasterCraft
Aug 01, 2006
Professional waterskiing, one of watersports most popular disciplines since the 1920???s, is about to turn another significant corner in its long history. The 2006 US Open of Waterskiing, presented by MasterCraft Boat Company, will move from being a typical tournament event to a mega on-water display of the best skiing has to offer.
The 2006 US Open, a high stakes, intense competition of renowned water skiers, will accomplish more this year than ever. While still an officially sanctioned tournament, for the first time the competition will take place in conjunction with the Surf Expo, the country's largest watersports retailer trade show which attracts thousands of retailers and manufacturers from around the world. In addition, the final rounds of the tournament will take place at night under the bright lights of possibly the most infamous grounds in the world, Downtown Disney, making the contest even more attractive to fans and their families. The strategy is simple, comments Chris Sullivan, Event Production Coordinator for MasterCraft. By having the event at night after the Expo, we will be able to show the world's retailers and manufacturers how much skiing has changed and re-energize their battery concerning waterskiing. Not to mention, we want the event to be a draw for the general skiing public as well and we felt the connection with Disney was a great answer. All of these elements together will make for world-class event. The official 2006 US Open schedule is the preliminaries will be held September 13-15 at USA Water Ski headquarters with two evenings of skiing at Downtown Disney -- a semifinal seeding round on the night September 15th and the finals on September 16th with total purse of over $100,000.00.
